‘Uomo della Luce’ and ‘Fil de Fer’ as symbols of quality, social innovation and leadership sharing in Bergamo centro.
The profile of a man in raw iron holding up a globe of light, symbol of Made in Italy. A universe of small bulbs created by Enzo Catellani, the re-working of one of the most iconic works of his design and art career: Fil de Fer.
Uomo della Luce – Man of Light – is not simply a light source but an emblem of man’s strength, a strength which is capable of supporting and facing up to the intricate but surprising and magical ‘play’ of the world.
It is for this reason that Uomo della Luce and Fil de Fer 2 mt have been chosen as emblematic of Bergamo’s Fuori Expo, in this year focusing on Italy and the Italians, fervent designers and creative historians who shaped the historical development from craftsmanship to industry.
The Expo project in Bergamo town, given the name Itinerari di Luce – Light Itineraries, has focused on the town centre as the fulcrum of activities, workshops, entertainment and seminars open to both experts and the initiated alike, to all those interested in art in addition to wine and food, sustainability, music and, obviously, design. It is a new international face of Bergamo as well as an urban enhancement project involving art work installations and light projections.
Growing out of an idea by BERGAMO CENTRO’s trade district and the joint efforts of a range of local companies, institutions, professionals and non-profit associations, the main objective of Itinerari di Luce is to entertain and create a veritable romantic light map of Bergamo’s manufacturing, institutional and cultural excellence.
A small Uomo della Luce has been awarded to all those who signed up to the initiative. A design creation as fil rouge to prompt visitors to stop and look first at the lights and then at the various activities represented by them.
Itinerary di Luce is part of the International Year of Light whose goal is to raise awareness the world over of sustainable technologies and development and encourage a more self-aware use of resources.
