Catellani & Smith’s Ensō Lamp Wins Honourable Mention at LIT Lighting Design Awards 2024

Catellani & Smith’s Ensō lamp, already recognised with prestigious international accolades, has added another honour to its name. The lamp has been awarded an Honourable Mention in the Lighting Product Design category at the LIT Lighting Design Awards 2024. These awards celebrate creativity, innovation, and excellence across the global lighting industry.
This year, an esteemed panel of jurors—including influential lighting design professionals, academics, journalists, and industry experts—evaluated submissions based on stringent criteria. Their assessment focused on technological innovation, energy efficiency, functionality, aesthetics, sustainability, and responsiveness to market demands.
Ensō was inspired by the ancient Japanese art of shodō, translating the two-dimensional movement of the brush into a three-dimensional sculptural piece that becomes both an art object and a functional source of light.
At the heart of Ensō is an ‘imperfect’ circle, its apparent simplicity embodying a universe of meanings. The sculptural circle is supported by a brass base, while its LED light source is concealed behind a blue hand-painted, irregular surface. This unique finish is achieved through a hand-crafting process, further enhancing its artisanal quality.
The lamp incorporates an innovative patented wireless connection and distribution system, which enables diffuse, delicate illumination. The result is a sensation of weightlessness and elegance that seamlessly combines art and cutting-edge technology.
